Accommodations

Every candidate deserves a fair chance to show what they can do

If something about the assessment format could get in the way of showing your skills, we'll work with you to find a reasonable accommodation.

Our approach

Accommodations change how you show your skills, not what is assessed. Every candidate is held to the same four performance standards. An accommodation removes barriers that have nothing to do with those skills.

This fits how the credential is already evaluated. Evaluators focus on your understanding, reasoning and judgment, and they don't score speaking style, accent, confidence, recording quality, visual polish or perfect grammar.

Requests are reviewed one at a time, based on your needs and the part of the assessment involved.

Examples of accommodations you can ask about

  • Extra time or breaks for the Knowledge Check
  • Materials that work with screen readers or other assistive technology
  • A different way to complete the Professional Articulation, such as a live conversation instead of a recording
  • Captions, transcripts or other format support
  • Flexible scheduling for assessment deadlines
  • Other supports listed in an IEP, 504 plan or similar plan

Examples only. If you need something not listed here, ask.

How to request an accommodation

1

Email us early

Write to taylor@denteducation.org as soon as you know you'll need support, ideally before your program or assessment begins.

2

Tell us what would help

Include your name, your program or cohort, which part of the assessment it's for, and what you need. If you have an IEP, 504 plan or similar, you're welcome to mention it.

3

We'll follow up

We'll reply to confirm your request, ask any questions, and agree on a plan with you before the assessment.

Privacy

What you share about your needs is kept private. It's used only to arrange your accommodation, and shared only with the people who need it to do so.

Preparing for the assessment

The Learner Prep Guide covers each part of the assessment and also explains how to request accommodations. Ask your program lead for a copy, or email taylor@denteducation.org.
